Do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor be weary of His correction

“And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs, and they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.” (2 Kings 20:7).

The word Bethany means “house of figs’. In the Bible figs speak of health, “2 Kings 20:7′. Figs are a part of the normal diet of the Jews. In “1 Samuel 25:18′ we read how Abigail brought the best things to David, hoping to appease his anger, and amongst them were two hundred cakes of figs. This is an illustration of the value of the figs among the Jews, for feasting and also for health. Bethany as house of figs is also house of health.

The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to proclaim the truth gospel and bring us true health. All men are sick of sin and sickness of sin cannot be healed, other than by abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to heal men and women from their sickness of sin and spoke truthfully and righteously throughout His infinite love, Words and wondrous deeds, by His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. This is enough evidence how great Jesus Christ’s infinite love is for our life so we can receive a future life more abundantly. Let us therefore humble ourselves and follow in the footsteps of our almighty dear caring Lord Jesus Christ.

See, I will bring health and healing to it, and I will heal them, and will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will build them up, as at the first. And I will cleanse them from all their wickedness, in which they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, in which they have sinned and in which they have transgressed against me. And it will be for me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which will hear of all the good that I do for them; and they will fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I provide for it.
“Thus says the LORD: Again there will be heard in this place, which you say will be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast, the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say, ‘Praise the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good,
for His mercy continues on forever’, and the voice of those
who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will restore the captive land, as at the first, says the LORD. “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Again in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all its cities, there will be dwelling places of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, once more the flocks will pass under the hands of the one counting them, says the LORD.
“See, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
“In those days, and at that time, I will cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up for David; and he will administer justice and righteousness in the land.” “Jeremiah 33:6-15′

Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your navel,
and marrow to your bones.
Honour the LORD with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your harvests; Then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your winepresses will burst open with new wine. My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor be weary of His correction, For whom the LORD loves He corrects,
as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:7-12

The Holy Scriptures

The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the marvelous righteous written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the truth fulfilling righteous Word of God and His Holy Spirit. In this marvelous righteous Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the most infallible revelation of His precious devine will. They are the standard of His precious devine character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God’s acts in history.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.
“2 Peter 1:20′

For prophecy did not come in olden times by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. “2 Peter 1:2′

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all
“2 Thessalonians 3:16′

The salutation of Paul with my own hand. This is the sign in every letter. This is how I write.
“2 Thessalonians 3:17′

Your word is a lamp
to my feet, and a light to my path. “Psalms 119:105′

Every word of God is pure.
He is a shield to those who
put their trust in Him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you, and you are found to be a liar. “Proverbs 30:5-6′

To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them. “Isaiah 8:20′

Sanctify them through your truth. Your Word is truth.
“John 17:17′

For this reason also we constantly thank God: because when you heard the Word of God from us and received it, you embraced it, not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God. Also it is effectively working in you who believe. “1 Thessalonians 2:13′

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any double edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart. “Hebrews 4:12′

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the Word of God. “Romans 10:17′

He giveth more grace

He giveth more grace - by the living stones quartet
Christian life does not guarantee an absence of trials and tribulations. It does not offer us a life where we won't encounter failures and pains. But what it offers is that we will never have to walk alone amidst any of these. When our burdens increase, God will supply us with strength. In afflictions, God will shower His mercy upon us. When we feel that we cannot take it any more, God is willing to take over because His power has no boundary. And what is even more beautiful is that all the hurdles that we encounter and all the obstacles that we face has got a divine purpose. And that purpose is that we may be transformed into the likeness of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. We need only submit ourselves before a loving, merciful and powerful God. And He will lead us through. His Love has no limits. His Grace has no measure. His power has no boundary known unto men. For out of His infinite riches in Jesus Christ. He Giveth, and Giveth, and Giveth

God’s Infinite Love for humanity

Nature and revelation alike testify of God’s infinite love. Our Father in heaven is the source of life, of wisdom, love joy and peace. Look at the wonderful and beautiful things of nature that surround us every single moment of the day.

Think of their marvelous adaptation to the needs and happiness, not only of human, but of all living devine creatures.

The sunshine and the rain, that gladden and refresh the earth, the hills and seas and plains, all speak to us of the Creator’s love.

It is God who supplies the daily needs of all His creatures, as we can clearly read in the beautiful words of the psalmist below…

“The eyes of all wait upon Thee; And Thou givest them their meat in due season.
Thou openest Thine hand,
And satisfiest the desire of every living thing.” Psalm 145:15, 16.

God made man perfectly holy and happy; and the fair earth, as it came from the Creator’s hand, bore no blight of decay or shadow of the curse.

It is transgression of God’s lawthe law of love that has brought woe and death. Yet even amid the suffering that results from sin, God’s love is revealed.

It is written that God cursed the ground for man’s sake. Genesis 3:17.

The thorn and the thistle the difficulties and trials that make his life one of toil and care were appointed for his good as a part of the training needful in God’s plan for his uplifting from the ruin and degradation that sin has wrought.

The world, though fallen, is not all sorrow and misery. In nature itself are messages of hope and comfort. There are flowers upon the thistles, and the thorns are covered with roses.

“God infinite devine love” is written upon every opening bud, upon every spire of springing grass. The lovely birds making the air vocal with their happy songs, the delicately tinted flowers in their perfection perfuming the air, the lofty trees of the forest with their rich foliage of living green all testify to the tender, fatherly care of our God and to His desire to make His children happy.

The word of God reveals His character. He Himself has declared His infinite love and pity.

When Moses prayed, “Show me Thy glory,” the Lord answered, “I will make all My goodness pass before thee.” Exodus 33:18, 19.

This is His glory. The Lord passed before Moses, and proclaimed, “The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Exodus 34:6, 7.

He is “slow to anger, and of great kindness,” “because He delighteth in mercy.” Jonah 4:2 and Micah 7:18

God has bound our hearts to Him by unnumbered tokens in heaven and in earth. Through the things of devine nature, and the deepest and tenderest earthly ties that human hearts can know, He has sought to reveal Himself to us.

Yet these but imperfectly represent His love. Though all these evidences have been given, the enemy of good blinded the minds of men, so that they looked upon God with fear; they thought of Him as severe and unforgiving.

satan led men to conceive of God as a being whose chief attribute is stern justice, one who is a severe judge, a harsh, exacting creditor. He pictured the Creator as a being who is watching with jealous eye to discern the errors and mistakes of men, that He may visit judgments upon them. It was to remove this dark shadow, by revealing to the world the infinite love of God, that Jesus Christ came to live among men.

The Son of God came from heaven to make manifest the Father.

“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him.” John 1:18.

“Neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him.” Matthew 11:27.

When one of the disciples made the request, “Show us the Father,” Jesus answered, “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me Philip? He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?” John 14:8, 9.

In describing His earthly mission, Jesus said, The Lord “hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” Luke 4:18.

This was His work. He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by Satan. There were whole villages where there was not a moan of sickness in any house, for He had passed through them and healed all their sick.

His work gave evidence of His divine anointing. Love, mercy, and compassion were revealed in every act of His life; His heart went out in tender sympathy to the children of men.

He took man’s nature, that He might reach man’s wants. The poorest and humblest were not afraid to approach Him.

Even little children were attracted to Him. They loved to climb upon His knees and gaze into the pensive face, benignant with love.

Jesus Christ did not suppress one word of truth, but He uttered it always in love. He exercised the greatest tact and thoughtful, kind attention in His relationships with the people.

He was never rude, never needlessly spoke a severe word, never gave needless pain to a sensitive soul. He did not censure human weakness.

He spoke the truth, but always in love. He denounced hypocrisy, unbelief, and iniquity; but tears were in His voice as He uttered His scathing rebukes.

He wept over Jerusalem, the city He loved, which refused to receive Him, the way, the truth, and the life. They had rejected Him, the Saviour, but He regarded them with pitying tenderness.

His life was one of self denial and thoughtful care for others. Every soul was precious in His eyes. While He ever bore Himself with divine dignity, He bowed with the tenderest regard to every member of the family of God. In all men He saw fallen souls whom it was His mission to save.

Such is the character of Christ as revealed in His life. This is the character of God. It is from the Father’s heart that the streams of divine compassion, manifest in Christ, flow out to the children of men. Jesus, the tender, pitying Saviour, was God “manifest in the flesh.” 1 Timothy 3:16.

It was to redeem us that Jesus Christ lived and suffered and died. He became “a Man of Sorrows,” that we might be made partakers of everlasting joy.

God permitted His beloved dear caring Son, full of grace and truth, to come from a world of indescribable glory, to a world marred and blighted with sin, darkened with the shadow of death and the curse.

He permitted Him to leave the bosom of His love, the adoration of the angels, to suffer shame, insult, humiliation, hatred, and death.

“The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5.

Behold Him in the wilderness, in Gethsemane, upon the cross! The spotless Son of God took upon Himself the burden of sin. He who had been one with God, felt in His soul the awful separation that sin makes between God and humanity.

This wrung from His lips the anguished cry, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:46.

It was the burden of sin, the sense of its terrible enormity, of its separation of the soul from God it was this that broke the heart of the Son of God.

But this great sacrifice was not made in order to create in the Father’s heart a love for man, not to make Him willing to save. No, no!

“God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son.” John 3:16.

The almighty dear Heavenly Father loves us, not because of the great propitiation, but He provided the propitiation because He loves us.

Jesus Christ was the medium through which He could pour out His infinite love upon a fallen world. “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself.” 2 Corinthians 5:19.

God suffered with His Son. In the agony of Gethsemane, the death of Calvary, the heart of Infinite Love paid the price of our redemption.

Jesus said, “Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again.” John 10:17. That is, “My Father has so loved you that He even loves Me more for giving My life to redeem you.

In becoming your Substitute and Surety, by surrendering My life, by taking your liabilities, your transgressions, I am endeared to My Father; for by My sacrifice, God can be just, and yet the Justifier of him who believeth in Jesus Christ.”

None but the Son of God could accomplish our redemption; for only He who was in the bosom of the Father could declare Him. Only He who knew the height and depth of the love of God could make it manifest.

Nothing less than the infinite sacrifice made by Jesus Christ in behalf of fallen man could express the Father’s love to lost humanity.

“God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son.” He gave Him not only to live among men, to bear their sins, and die their sacrifice.

He gave Him to the fallen race. Jesus Christ was to identify Himself with the interests and needs of humanity. He who was one with God has linked Himself with the children of men by ties that are never to be broken. Jesus Christ is “not ashamed to call them brethren” (Hebrews 2:11); He is our Sacrifice, our Advocate, our Brother, bearing our human form before the Father’s throne, and through eternal ages one with the race He has redeemed the Son of man.

And all this that man might be uplifted from the ruin and degradation of sin that he might reflect the love of God and share the joy of holiness.

The price paid for our redemption, the infinite sacrifice of our Heavenly dear caring Father in giving His Son to die for us, should give us exalted conceptions of what we may become through Jesus Christ.

As the inspired apostle John beheld the height, the depth, the breadth of the Father’s love toward the perishing race, he was filled with adoration and reverence; and, failing to find suitable language in which to express the greatness and tenderness of this infinite love, he called upon the world to behold it.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” 1 John 3:1. What a great value this places upon man!

Through transgression the sons of man become subjects of satan. Through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Christ the sons of Adam may become the sons of God.

By assuming human nature, Jesus Christ elevates humanity. Fallen men are placed where, through connection with Jesus Christ, they may indeed become worthy of the name “sons of God.”

Such infinite love is without a parallel. Children of the heavenly King! Precious promise! Theme for the most profound meditation! The matchless infinite love of God for a world that did not love Him!

The thought has a subduing power upon the soul and brings the mind into captivity to the precious devine will of God.

The more we study the divine character in the light of the cross, the more we see mercy, tenderness, and forgiveness blended with equity and justice, and the more clearly we discern innumerable evidences of a love that is infinite and a tender pity surpassing a mother’s yearning sympathy for her wayward child.

We ought to obey God rather than men

We ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:29.

The message that we have to bear is not one that we need cringe to declare. Its advocates are not to seek to cover it, to conceal its origin and purpose. As those who have made solemn vows to God, and who have been commissioned as the messengers of Jesus Christ, as stewards of the mysteries of grace, we are under obligation to declare faithfully the whole counsel of God.

We are not to make less prominent the special truths that have separated us from the world, and made us what we are; for they are fraught with eternal interests. God has given us light in regard to the things that are now taking place, and with pen and voice we are to proclaim the truth to the world.

The Sabbath is the Lord’s test, and no man, be he king, priest, or ruler, is authorized to come between God and man. Those who seek to be conscience for their fellow men, place themselves above God. Those who are under the influence of a false religion, who observe a spurious rest day, will set aside the most positive evidence in regard to the true Sabbath. They will try to compel men to obey the laws of their own creation, laws that are directly opposed to the law of God…. The law for the observance of the first day of the week is the production of an apostate Christendom…. In no case are God’s people to pay it homage.

The banner of truth and religious liberty held aloft by the founders of the gospel church and by God’s witnesses during the centuries that have passed since then, has, in this last conflict, been committed to our hands…. We are to recognize God’s government as an ordinance of divine appointment, and teach obedience to it as a sacred duty, within its legitimate sphere and for us to have no conflict with the claims of God. We truly must obey God rather than men. God’s marvelous righteous Word must be recognized as above all human legislation. “The crown of our Lord Jesus Christ is to be lifted above the diadems of earthly potentates…

How do we follow the Lamb?

How do we follow the Lamb?
These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. “Revelation 14:4”. For what it is to follow the Lamb. To follow the Lamb wherever he goes is to follow Him in four things.

First, we follow the Lamb in His commandments. If you love Me, you will keep My commandments as we can clearly read in “John 14:15”. You are my friends If you do what I command you “John 15:14”. We cannot follow the lamb wherever He goes unless we follow Him in His commandments. True believers should take as much delight in those precepts that enjoying holiness as in those promises that assure their happiness.

Secondly, we have to follow the Lamb in His teaching. My sheep hear My voice and I know them. And they follow Me. But they will never follow a stranger. In fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice. John 10:5,27

Thirdly, we follow the Lamb in His providence through all afflictions, all straits, all discouragements and sorrows, whatever, though it is the way of death. We must forsake all to follow our Lord, Saviour and Redeemer, If He calls us to it says Paul, I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We must be willing to venture the loss of all for Him, our liberty, our estates, our relations, and our life itself. We have forsaken all and followed You “Matthew 19:27”

Fourthly, we follow the lamb in His example. I have given you an example that you also should do, just as I have done for you, “John 13:15′. Jesus Christ has suffered for us, leaving us an great example that we should follow in His steps. “1 Peter 2:21”. To follow in Jesus Christ’s steps is to take Him for our example. We can not follow wicked men’s example who walk in the broad way that leads to death. For they are the children of the kingdom of satan, and they love to do the evil things he does. “John 8:44”. But we must follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Who went about doing good, “Acts 10:38”. Now, this is how we follow the Lamb wherever He goes in His commands. In His teaching, in His providence, in His great examples.

For without Me you can do nothing

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains in Me, and I in him, he will bear much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5

“Much fruit”– this will result because the life and power of Jesus Christ will flow through them. Any attempt to serve Him without truly abiding in Him will come to nothing in God’s eyes, though there may be much activity and seeming success. “Nothing” here means nothing truly spiritual, nothing of the kind of fruit God wants. There is much activity in the churches (not to speak of the religious world in general) which comes to nothing good because it is not done in Jesus Christ and does not have the flow of His life in it.

It is only with the resurrection power that one can overcome all limitations, and trials and temptations. It is only with resurrection power we have an intimate knowledge of the Lord Jesus. Such an intimate knowledge of God comes by resurrection power. That is why Paul had no longing for visions, or dreams or signs; nor did he desire to be caught up to the third heaven. He longed to know Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection.

Such a faith will not come easily till we have had many failures. After we have failed many times we will say, “O Lord, I confess I am wrong.” Consciously or unconsciously we depend upon our own strength, our wisdom and our knowledge. Paul said, “I die daily.” (as we can read in 1 Corinthians 15:31). As human beings we all remain weak in spite of our Bible knowledge, cleverness and past blessings. With our old nature we think we can conquer temptation. The devil brings something into our path every day, by thought, word or deed, and the Lord puts into our life some disappointment, some painful situation some journeys or difficulty to teach us how to depend upon Him constantly. “Without me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). For all things you can depend upon Him. Generally we go to the Lord Jesus for big matters and not for small matters. That attitude brings us into many failures. We have to recognize the power of resurrection for small matters too, for every burden for every ministry, and for every need.

I will love you, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high refuge. I will call to the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so I will be saved from my enemies. The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of hell surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the LORD, and cried out to my God. He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, into His ears.

The spiritual meaning of gold, silver, brass and shittim wood

“And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass.” (Exodus 25:3)

What is the spiritual meaning of gold, silver and brass and shittim wood? And for what reason has God demanded those materials? Gold speaks of the divine nature. We all need divine wisdom, divine strength, and divine knowledge. And God has provided these in His son as we can read in 1 Corinthians 1:30. When we do things according to the divine plan of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are gathering gold for His Sanctuary.

Silver speaks of redemption. Our Lord was sold for the price of the slave. But He sacrificed His own life to save us from our sin. Wherever you see silver in the Tabernacle it speaks of redemption, of the price our Lord paid and saved us. When we are born again, we become the “Purchased possession” of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our spirits and our bodies now belong to Him. We are “bought with a price” as we can read in 1 Corinthians 6:20). Now I can no longer say that my hands, my feet, my lips, my eyes are my own. They belong to the Lord Jesus Christ because He has purchased me, and bought me by His own Blood (1 Peter 1:18-19).

Our bodies are the temples of His Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).That is why we must glorify God with them, through our dress, our habits, our manners, our speech (1 Thessalonians 4:4-5; 1 Titus 2:9-10). That is the pure silver. My body and my spirit have became the purchased possession of my Lord, and now I cannot dress as I used to do. Now I cannot waste my money upon worldly things, and upon worldly glory. Now, I must glorify my Lord through my dress, manners and ways. It is the privilege of every believer thus to bring silver to God’s House.

The brass speaks of judgment. Those who looked on the serpent of brass, acknowledged thereby that they themselves were under judgment and that it was the devil (the serpent) who was responsible for their disobedience and death. By His Cross our Lord Jesus Christ has defeated our enemy. He has crushed him, and through faith we have the victory in Him.

Gold speaks of the divine nature; the silver of that price of redemption that our Lord has paid for us; while brass speaks of the judgment, which our Lord had to bear on our behalf. All of us are commanded to gather that material, and bring it to Him.
