And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. “Luke 1:7”
A person’s legacy was largely defined by their children in ancient times. Without surviving children, those who grew old were in a difficult position. When Zechariah and Elizabeth reach their old age, their hopes of having children all but fade away. Upon hearing an angel tells Zechariah that Elizabeth will conceive, Zechariah is in disbelief. Upon becoming pregnant, Elizabeth celebrates that her humiliating condition has been wiped away.
Elizabeth was filled with joy and gladness at the thought that her son would one day lead many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. As a forerunner of the Messiah, he would restore the hearts of the fathers to the children, and help return many disobedient sons to a living faith. God would use him to instill an attitude of righteousness in the hearts of God’s people, so that a people would be prepared for the Lord.
A miracle can still be performed by the God of miracles with the same power and authority as in those distant days, when Elizabeth’s barren womb was touched by God’s hand and became fruitful to His greater honor. May we never doubt the supernatural power of our great and awesome God, and may we trust Him in all facets of our lives.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father, I thank You for the beautiful picture of a woman who trusted You and was rewarded in the most supernatural way in her autumn days. I pray that I will be able to trust You in all circumstances throughout my life, even when I think that my chances are long gone. Please use me in honor to Your service, and may I be fruitful for the rest of my life. Thank you dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father. I pray this throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings through Jesus Christ, our almighty, wonderful dear Lord, Saviour and Redeemer.
