Psalms 25

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. Psalms 25:1

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:1- In this psalm we see several features of David’s character which made him a man after God’s own heart. These are prayerfulness (as shown in vers 1,16-22), trust (vers 2), desire to know God’s ways (vers 4,5), hope (vers 5,15,21), confession of sin and dependence on God’s mercy alone (vers 6,7,11,18), desire to give others the truth (vers 8-10,12-14).

O my God, I trust in you. Do not let me be ashamed; do not let my enemies triumph over me.
Psalms 25:2

Yes, let no one who waits on you be ashamed. Let them be ashamed who transgress without cause.
Psalms 25:3

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:2-3 – Read Psalm’s 34:5; 37:19;
119:5-6, 80; Isaiah 41:11;
42:17; 44:9-11; 45:16-17, 24; 49:23; and Romans 5:5; 10:11.

Show me your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.
Psalms 25:4

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:4 –
This is a prayer every human being should make to the almighty, sovereign, reigning Heavenly Father, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. What a difference it would make in this confused and sinful world! Any such sincere prayer to our almighty dear Heavenly Father will certainly be heard. He loves to teach His children His righteous ways if they are willing to learn them – Read Psalms 32:8; 71:17; 94:10, 12; Isaiah 2:3; 54:13; Matthew 5:2;
Mark 6:35 and John 6:45; 14:26. We see in this psalm the people that God teaches – believers (vers 5), sinners (vers 8), the humble (vers 9), those who fear the Lord (vers 12). If we do not want God to teach us, it will be no surprise if we remain in ignorance and darkness about spiritual truth…

Lead me in your truth, and teach me; for you are the God of my salvation. On you I wait all the day.
Psalms 25:5

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:5 – Believers should pray for God’s guidance and teaching, Read Psalms 27:11; 86:11;
119:12, 26, 33, 64, 66, 108 and Exodus 33:13. What wonderful things we will learn who has God for their teacher! Everyone who is taught of God will come to the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in Him – everyone. Read John 6:45.

Remember, O LORD, your tender mercies and your acts of loving kindness; for they are from ancient times.
Psalms 25:6

Remember not the sins of my youth, or my transgressions. According to your mercy remember me for your goodness’ sake, O LORD.
Psalms 25:7

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:7 See vers 11. Read Psalms 18:23. David knows it is only because of God’s mercy, love, and goodness that he has hope and therefore fully trust in God.

Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He will teach sinners in the way.
Psalms 25:8

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms –
25:8 If God did not condescend to teach sinners not one of us would ever learn the truth. But God is kind and merciful, He desires to teach His children who honorable abide in Him.

The meek He will guide in judgment, and the meek He will teach His way.
Psalms 25:9

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:9- Read Psalms 32:9;
Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 11:29 and James 1:21. Those whom God would teach He first humbles, for the proud can hardly learn spiritual truth…

All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.
Psalms 25:10

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms Psalms 25:10- Read Psalms 103:17-18 And Exodus 34:5-7.

For your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my sin; for it is great. Psalms 25:11

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:11- It is to the glory of God’s almighty name to pardon the sins of His people who repent and seek His face. Forgiveness is one of the sweetest words in the language…

Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him He will teach in the way that he chooses.
Psalms 25:12

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:12 – “fear of the Lord” Read Genesis 20:11; Psalms 34:11-14 and Proverbs 1:7.

His soul will dwell in prosperity, and his offspring will inherit the earth.
Psalms 25:13

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:13 – These were blessings promised under the old covenant. Read Psalms 1:1-3.

The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and he will show them His covenant.
Psalms 25:14

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:14 – Spiritual truth can be understood only by those who have the right attitudes toward God (Read Genesis 18:17-19; Proverbs 3:22; Matthew 11:25; Luke 14:25-35; 24:45; John 7:17 and 1 Corinthians 2:11-14).

My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.
Psalms 25:15

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:15 – Read Psalms 16:8; 123:2; 141:8.

Turn to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted. Psalms 25:16

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:16 – Sometimes the believer is alone in his stand for God – Read 1 Kings 18:22; 19:10,
14-18 and 2 Timothy 4:16-17.

The troubles of my heart have grown large. Oh, bring me out of my distresses.
Psalms 25:17

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:17 – Troubles of the heart are the most troublesome of all and inward struggles the most grievous of all (Read Psalms 13:2; 73:26; Job 3:20-26; 7:11; 10:1; Prov 14:10 and John 14:1).

Look at my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins.
Psalms 25:18

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:18 – Evidently David thought that his sins might be the source of his present difficulties. On forgiveness Read Psalms 103:3; 130:4;
Luke 24:46-47; Acts 13:38 and 1 John 1:9.

Consider my enemies, for they are many, and they hate me with cruel hatred.
Psalms 25:19

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:19 – Read Psalms 3:1; 23:5…

Oh, keep my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.
Psalms 25:20

Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on You.
Psalms 25:21

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 25:21 – Here are two perfect guards for our life, when we put our hope and faith in God alone.

Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
Psalms 25:22

And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
Psalms 78:35

Note and Biblical Scripture Reference on Psalms 78:35 – The Hebrew word translated here “redeemer” (goel) is used 46 times in the Hebrew Old Testament, sometimes of God, sometimes of men. It had various meanings. A redeemer was one who delivered from trouble and bondage (see Genesis 48:16 and Deuteronomy 13:5); a close relative who would buy a person’s lost property and restore it to him (Read Leviticus 25:25); an avenger of a family member who had been killed (Read Numbers 35:12); a close relative who would marry the widow of a family member and raise up progeny for him, besides buying up her lost property (Read Ruth 2:20); and one who takes the side of his people against oppressors (Read Proverbs 23:11). As Redeemer God saved His people from bondage, restored them to the land, and punished their enemies (Read Isaiah 49:25-26 and Jeremiah 50:33-34).

In the New Testament the word has more spiritual meanings. There the Lord Jesus is the Redeemer. He paid the price to release us from sin’s bondage. The price was His own blood. By His blood believers have forgiveness, freedom, and an glorious eternal inheritance. Jesus stands up for believers against their spiritual enemy satan. He will destroy this one who has brought death on the human race, and will restore to His children all that they lost by falling into satan’s hands. The Lord Jesus has redeemed His children (volk) that collectively they might become His holy, spiritual “bride” to bring forth fruit for God. Read Matthew 20:28; 26:28; Romans 3:24; 7:1-4; 8:23; Galatians 3:13-14; Ephesians 1:7, 14; 4:30; 5:25-33; Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 9:12; 1 Peter 1:4, 18, 19 and Revelation 1:5; 5:9-10; 19:6-9.

8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon His name,Make known His deeds among the people. 9 Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him, Talk ye of all His wondrous works. 10 Glory ye in His holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 11 Seek the LORD and His strength,
Seek His face continually.
12 Remember His marvellous works that He hath done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth; 13 O ye seed of Israel His servant,
Ye children of Jacob, His chosen ones.14 He is the
LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.
15 Be ye mindful always of His covenant; The word which he commanded to a thousand generations 16 Even of the covenant
which he made with Abraham,
And of his oath unto Isaac;
17 And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, And to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan,
The lot of your inheritance;
19 When ye were but few,
Even a few, and strangers in it.
20 And when they went from nation to nation, And from one kingdom to another people; 21 He suffered no man to do them wrong:
Yea, He reproved kings for their sakes, 22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed,And do My prophets no harm. 23 Sing unto the LORD, all the earth;
Shew forth from day to day His salvation.24 Declare His glory among the heathen;
His marvellous works among all nations. 25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: He also is to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the people are idols: But the LORD made the heavens.
27 Glory and honour are in His presence; Strength and gladness are in His place.
28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, Give unto the LORD glory and strength.29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name: Bring an offering, and come before Him: Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
30 Fear before Him, all the earth: The world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.
31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice:
And let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.
32 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: Let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.
33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD,
Because he cometh to judge the earth. 34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; For His mercy endureth for ever.
35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, And gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen,
That we may give thanks to Thy holy name, And glory in thy praise. 36 Blessed be
the LORD God of Israel
For ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.
1 chronicles 16:8-36

“The LORD bless you, and keep you. The LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26
